Unlike other places in the Caribbean, San Juan is one place that has a lot of history and other charms going about it. There is colonial architecture, historic forts, museums, fine dining options and luxurious beach hotels. In other words, you have everything you can possibly look forward to in a holiday in San Juan. Besides, the old San Juan is a UNESCO world heritage site too.
Old San Juan is a place which is 500 years old. Since the days of the Spanish invasion, this town has existed albeit through multiple changes. It is the oldest city that carries the US flag. The biggest attraction of Old San Juan is El Morro, a land that overlooks the sea. The other highlights are San Juan Cathedral and various other museums, to say nothing of the architecture of the place.
The special visit should be given to El Morro. It was built in 1539, with a construction that went on for 250 years. Much of it took place between the 1760s and 1780s. This place has ramps, dungeons, outposts, tunnels and many such mysterious things. The fort will give you an incredible view of the place. This is a must-see if you are visiting San Juan.
San Cristobal should be your next stop. This fort is even bigger than El Morro. This is the largest one the Spanish people built in their New World. It is spread over 27 acres. You can literally see history developing in the alleys and by lanes of this fort. This is historic and breathtaking. The ancient architecture will blow your mind and you will get the goosebumps.
Have some more time? Go to San Juan cemetery and San Juan cathedral and Condado and Ocean Park Beach. These places will be worth the visit.
